Last Minutes Details
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:24:27 PM »
This Wednesday, the cache listings for this year's Spring Cache Challenge will be released on the geocaching.com site. It's almost time to start mapping out your route and working out those puzzles! The caches submitted for the SCC are still coming in, too. So, it's time to ensure the list of caches is up to date and accurate!

If you are expecting a cache to be approved, but haven't heard about it yet, you might want to get in contact with our local reviewers. Also, let me know ASAP the GC#, name, and category of any cache you want in the SCC that isn't on the list by Tuesday, April 28th (tomorrow.) If you don't find out by Tuesday, that your cache has been approved, let me know and I'll remove it from the list. :( So that we can avoid any last minute changes, once Wednesday April 29th rolls around, we'll cut off adding any new caches to the list.

You might want to take one more quick look at your cache listings to make sure they make sense and maybe even check on your caches one last time.
Good work, and thanks to everyone who has hidden caches for the challenge this year. I honestly thought there was no way we'd equal the 48 caches that were out last year, so to surpass it with 64 caches is quite the pleasant surprise! We're expecting around 35 folks at the wrap-up too. Should be a great time!

PS: Don't get swept away by any rushing spring floods! :)

The 4 I've got listed in the other forum are all approved and "on hold for future release".

Are you going to make a query of all the new caches like you did last year and list it on the page for SCC?

Is there room for the mechtoddlers at supper or should we find someone to watch them?

Hey Mech, I've got the MechFamily down for 4. I think we've overgrown the party room, so, Jenn's gonna call Chicago Joe's and let them know we're just going to need a big bunch of tables. :)

Oh yeah, I will make a bookmark listing so you can easily download it and save it to your GPSr. I'm planning on clearing my GPSr Wednesday so that only SCC 2009 caches will be on it! Hee hee!

We went out today and checked all our caches including ones from last year. As far as the new ones, a couple have really changed since we hid them 3 or so weeks ago. They may fit the wet category. Who Knew? Still snow in the bush, and its melting fast, so we expect a few caches to fit the wet category for a while. We are packing Newfie dress shoes so Killers soft subtle feet don't get wet, and I don't want my talons getting wet either. Forecast so far looks good for Friday and Saturday. No heat wave but sunny. 60+ new caches.......woohoo.

It looks like there are a couple cases where cachers have hidden caches outside of categories. MatthewsMommy, JLC & that band hid a couple micros. I'd like to keep the caches available for the challenge though. It means a couple points less for the hiders, but more fun for all of us this weekend.

In the case of MM's it's a snap, she let me know of the cache a couple weeks ago, but we didn't know what to do with it because it was a second micro. That's why it wasn't on the list. So instead of taking the others off the list, I've just added hers.

Wasn't it nice to wake up to all these new caches! CacheMinder and CacheDrone, if you read this, THANKS A LOT for approving all these caches and getting them approved all at once!

That's what happens when you hide caches before the rules come out, like I did.  Only time I could get to Thunder Bay and hide.  I was working off of last years rules at the time.

But it is also how one interprets the caches, e.g. a micro is still a tradition cache, isn't it?

Just to clarify, it's not that a micro cache isn't a traditional cache. It's that all caches for the SCC should be small or regular sized unless the category specifies otherwise. So, a cache hidden in the Large category specifies a large 5L+ sized cache, a cache hidden in the Micro category specifies a micro sized cache. To hide a micro or large cache means they must be in the micro or large category.

Quote
Cache Categories
Each cache hidden for the Spring Cache challenge must be hidden according to the following categories. You may hide only one type of cache in each category. This is to encourage a variety of unique caches. Assume all cache sizes are regular or small unless otherwise specified.

One other note, so there's no confusion, GC1MGDG McKenzie, JLC hid this for the SCC before the rules were settled upon and although it was released today and has the SCC2009 info on it, he has stated that it is not part of the SCC.

Just to let everyone know:

The cache container for   GC1MGD7 - Armstrong  will be change to a small cache container on Friday before the event when I get back into the big city from Winnipeg.

It will still be difficult to find.

Just to let everyone know:

The final cache container for   GC1MGC2 - Mountain View  will be changed to a small cache container on Friday before the event when I get back into the big city from Winnipeg.

The 1st stage container will not be changed.

Well a note on the Cache #11 other wise known as Jailbird, It seems that when someone was making the cache listing the "GC" number is wrong (mising one number) The right one is GC1NM5E.  I guess with that many caches you can't always be perfect.
Make Time, Not Excuses.

Happy Caching

Be careful of #59 too...it actually links back to the cache with the title #10 (which is #55 on the list)  if you print them as is you will have that cache twice.
