The coin race would be a lot of fun. After the SCC we could all head to a nearby cache and deposit our coins to start the race or something. I'd be interested in challenging someone to an east vs west race around the world.

As far as price goes. If we can't get 100 coins spoken for by the end of the week, would the few of us who are interested be willing to pay the bigger bucks and just get a smaller run (of say 50 coins?)

So far it looks like: jLee, ChrisDom, Ragbag, GOTP, H+K, and shroomAzoom are in. I can almost guarantee that Mechman, Pepsis and Poohma would want some too. That's nine so far. I'm sure there is one more person who we can wrangle in. At that, we can say that we could in theory get the 50 coins at a higher price, or for $85 we'd each get 10 coins. (And as more folks are interested, the price goes down.) Anyway, just thinking online. :)

The only question that i have to ask about the smaller order of 50, this doesn't allow thim to be a trackable coin?  Is this correct?   ???    Plus if you really think about it... at the (order 50) higher price your getting 5 coins for $70 + taxs... or everyone can come together and for like a extra 20 bucks more we can all double our coins too 10.  Just my two cents... or maybe my $20

What COG did the first year was gather 100$ from 25 investors ($2500) - sell all the coins, and split the profits 25 ways.  everyone got their money back plus a little extra.  Worked out in such a way that COG actually has a nestegg now that we can buy our coins now without looking for investors (after 3 coins and a few fundraisers)

when i say 25 investors - i mean we had a stock system.  there were 25 stocks, each worth 100$ some people bought 10, some people bought 1.  For every stock you get 1/25th of the profit plus a special "investor" coin that had a different paint job then the rest, but was the same mould.

Just a thought!

I like the idea of stocks/shares that could generate enough profits for annual coins.  If it is to late for this year; we should considered it for the future.

COG's shares idea is really neat. They're an "real organization" though with officers, a constitution, bank account, incorporation (probably, even.) We're just a collections of friends with a website.

We could do the shares thing, but simply as an agreement between friends. (Which is in essence what's going on here anyway.) I personally would be uncomfortable holding on to loads of money for an extended time.

I'm thinking that our best bet is doing the 100 coins from Oakcoins. To continue with this, we'll have to collect the money to send out pretty soon. (And I'm even slightly uncomfortable with that.. ie. asking you all to trust me with your $85 each (for example) to get the coins.)

No reason to be uncomfortable about the money; we are all interseted in seeing this happen.  Thank you for all the work you have put into it, I think you deserve a point towards SCC 2009 for your efforts.

hahaha!  glad it appears that way :)
When we made our first geocoin we didnt have a bank account (we do now)
we still lack officers, a constitution or incorporation though  ;)  And our bank account is really just one of our members "spare" bank accounts

Hey All -

Thanks for inviting me to this thread Shroom.  I havn't been in here for a long time now.  Life is keeping me busy!

Anyway coins look good - did you use NORWEST because the extra TH wouldn't fit nicely?

Oh never mind..I just looked at the top of the screen - that's what we are called!  DOH!!

Anyway, like the idea - I'm in for 10 coins, and I'm sure that Q&A would get some too...I'll call them up...

Let me know how you want to collect the money.  I say oakcoins is the way to go.

I'm in for a race too....it would be neat to try...

When you decide on a price with the american companies see if either landsharkz or 3geeks can match it - remember you will likely have to pay some duty on it if you are buying a bulk order from the states

Good thoughts again, JuicePig. I will give Landsharkz another chance to match Oakcoins' price. They have been very helpful. Good news is, I've received a few emails this morning from those of us who have already expressed an interest in getting coins. It looks like we're now only 15 coins away from the magic number 100. Yay!  ;D

Good news! Just about everyone has replied to my email that I sent this morning to the interested geocoin people. We have met the minimum requirement for the price break. Yay!  ;D

I'll send off an email to Landsharkz to see if they can meet the Oakcoins price. If so, we'll go with them. If not, I'll make the order with Oakcoins this week. Woo! Thanks everyone for your interest in this, they're going to be great!
