Caches for the SCC2009
«

We took advantage of a trip to Thunder Bay on Thursday, February 5, 2009 to set up 6 caches for the SCC2009. The cache were set up with assistance from my wife "pnutbeagle"
They were submitted today for approval:
(CACHE CATEGORIES ADDED - MARCH 16, 2009)
GC1MGCQ - Mountain View -
MULTI WITH A TWIST
GC1MGCZ - 20th Side Road -
MICROCACHE
GC1MGD0 - WACC -
MYSTERY HOMEMADE CONTAINER
GC1MGD2 - Scout Trees for Canada -
HAND-CRAFTED LARGE CACHE
GC1MGD7 - Armstrong -
TRADITIONAL
GC1MGDG - McKenzie -
PUZZLE (BONOUS CACHE) (BUT NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE SCC2009 - OUTSIDE OF 20 km RADIUS) but will be released on April 29
I have indicated to have then released on Wednesday April 22, 2009 with an alternate release date of April 29, 2009 if the event is held on May 1-2.
I still prefer the first weekend (April 24-25) for the event.
I know that this is early to put caches out for the event, I am pretty sure that our next visit to Thunder Bay will porbably be for the event.

Just to let you know that the caches that I submitted for the SCC2009 have passed review.
I just have to change the date for release to April 29.

Our second is in the works, and we've got ideas for two or three more.

The following 2 caches have been approved for the SCC:
GC1NHMK - Poleline Walk - Off the Beaten
GC1NHTE - RR - Micro
A 3rd cache was placed but was too close to another listing for the Event....so we're working on that and one or two others.

After the snow this week, we were just considering painting all our caches white and throwing them randomly into the big piles at the end of everyone's driveway, but alas, Spring will come. It is good to see so many caches coming out of the workshops. This year, we are doing our share and trying to get some of our own into play. Here's a list so far of items blessed by the CacheGods:
GC1MYK5 - Shelley - our traditional entry
GC1N19X - The Phoney Clue - our mystery puzzle cache
... in the works
GC1NFCH - Man Overboard - a multi with our patented "twist"
Still in the workshop are STYX, Das Boot (which may be my favourite of all and should especially be liked by HK) and OBC (One Big Cache - which will have its own unique FTF item for a little flare).
Making them is almost as fun as finding them.
Anyway, that's the report from the workshop.

I'll have to say, Cache Minder, the volunteer reviewer for our area has been great. He gets back and replies quickly to new releases. We posted one, and I guess we forgot to mention that it was for the spring challenge, he contacted us and asked if it was in fact for the challenge. He could have just published it based on what we had posted. Nice to see a reviewer on the ball when the owner of a cache is not. Good work and much appreciated.

We have one cache waiting for review, and at least 2 more "in thought". We are away for a couple of weeks though so I think we're going to do the mad dash to get our caches out in the last couple of weeks.. hope all the spots haven't been taken
Just thought I'd put it out there for people that are guessing on numbers cause you guys are so ahead in getting caches published!

Jenn and I just submitted our first Earthcache, and hopefully it will be approved in time for the SCC. Not having done an Earthcache before, I was surprised at the hoops required, just to submit one.
Anyway, it was fun to discover and learn about, and we look forward to having you guys log it. Oh, and I heard a rumour that there's going to be at least one other Earthcache hidden for the challenge too. Woo!

H+K were asking, but I don't remember where, about the Revenge of the Caboose Event taking place the same day as the SCC. Special permission has been given to count this WWFM Event as one of the SCC caches. Back when we were discussing the date of the SCC, Jim mentioned that one of the proposed dates was the same day as the WWFM (which is an international event, right Jim?) He was going to hold it in Marathon, but because that ended up being the date for the SCC, he's going to hold it here in town and we've incorporated it into the SCC.
It's just another unique cache hidden for the SCC. Find it if you want! I think there will be a few of us who plan our Saturday afternoon so that we can be near the Marina just prior to 1pm. Could be a fun 15 minutes to check up on where you stand relative to the other cachers in the challenge too!

Yes. This is an international event.
So far there are 88 WWFM V Events planned in 16 countries.
23 States are involved with 43 events in total.
There are 6 provinces in Canada involved with 13 total WWFM V events.
If you go to the event listing and click on "Bookmark Lists" - "WWFM V (World Wide Flash Mob 5) Events [Official 2009 List], you will see where all 88 WWFM V events will be held.
It is a quick 15 min event with a new unactivated WWFM V Geocoin as a TFT draw prize.
Probably the most important thing about this event, the cache location for CN 78175 will be revealed only to the participates of this event.
Update - April 2, 2009 - There are now 104 WWFM V Event planned around the world. See WWFM V blog
