This is to let you know that Tammy of Neys Lunch & Campground  (20 minute west of Marathon near Neys Provincial Park) is planning for a geocaching event to be held over the August long weekend starting Friday night with the wrapup at the Sunday evening campfire.

Camping will be available at Neys Lunch & Campground across from the entrance to Neys Provincial Park.

I am working with Tammy to get the event published.  Various geocaching activities will be planned.  Tammy is planning to have over 150 temporary geocaches setup for this fun weekend of geocaching.

More information about Neys Lunch & Campground can be found at  www.neyslunch.com

Keep tuned

Jim

Thanks Jim. She asked Kathy and I if we could submit it for publishing, and I mentioned to her to ask you first seeing you are a local yokel. We really enjoy her and her husbands zest for geocaching, and their company (but she and her Mom's cooking probably take precedent) . Good people. We would not let her down though and if it came down to us submitting it we would have, even though we are not at this point sure if we could make it. Nice gesture Jim, thanks.

This is the itinerary so far.

All activities will be at Neys Lunch & Campground therefore we encourage geocachers to spend the weekend camping at Neys Lunch & Campground. (www.neyslunch.com) where you will find fully serviced campsites and camping cabins.  As an alternative Neys Provincial Park is located directly across the Highway from Neys Lunch & Campground, so you are still close enough to participate in the activities.  There is no charge to take part in the weekend of Geocaching, however you will be responsible for the cost of your accommodations.

Arrival should be Friday July 31, this will allow you to get settled and familiarize yourself with the area. A campfire is planned for Friday evening where Geocachers can get to know each other with some planned get to know you games. Receive their bag of information consisting of the games for the weekend complete with list of Co-ordinates, instructions, and goodies.

Saturday will be a day of geocaching in an effort to complete the games organized, over 150 Geocaches have been placed for this event.

Saturday evening will be a pot luck supper with all participants followed by another campfire to share stories from the day.

Sunday morning will start with a pancake breakfast sponsored by Neys Lunch and Campground. Followed by more opportunities to finish your games.

Sunday evening will conclude with a campfire and prizes.

This being the long weekend Monday can be a day of relaxation and packing up at your leisure.

If you don't like the way I drive....Stay off the sidewalk.

Animals taste good.

Learn how to use a compass. Gps is fine until it does not work, and it sucks to have to eat your friends to live.

I'll have to bug Tammy tomorrow when I meet with her regarding the event, that I wasn't the first one she contacted.

I will also get her signed up for this forum

LOL

So I am in the process of preparing 150 caches to start hidding in the spring in anticipation of this event.  As you can imagine coming up with the containers is the difficult part!!!  If anyone is going by Neys Lunch & Campground and happens to have some empty containers that they don't plan to use themselves, please feel free to drop them off or contact me. I am up and down the highway pretty regularly and would be happy to pick them up.

Looking forward to finding some great hidding places..... if you plan to come for the event and own a quad..... you might want to bring it although it will not be neccessary to find the caches but will save your vehicle in the back country.

we are working very hard getting prepared for this event.  We have some great items for the loot bags that every geochacher can use, we are pretty excited about this event!!  ;D

If you plan to attend if you can log your intentions on the Geocaching web site as getting ready for an unknown number is really difficult.  I have to start hidding caches now so I really am guessing at how many game peices should be in each cache.  Don't wait to  log your intentions, this is going to be a great fun filled weekend!!!

??? does anyone know how to upload coordinates to a website?  I will have all the coordinates listed in the program for the event but I was trying to upload the coordinates to my website for participants to download to their GPS  just to make things easier.  Any knowledge out there would be greatly appreciated!!

I've been talking to Beverlee Coulter in Marathon, she has a column in the Chronicle Journal.  She is going to write about Geocaching, what it is and how it's played.  She is also going to mention this event and invite muggles that wish to learn and try the sport to come out for the event.

I wonder if anyone has an old GPS they have lying around, maybe some of you have upgraded and still have your old one.  Just brainstorming and looking for input..... if we have some used GPS's available I wonder if it would be a good idea to lend them out to newbies to get them hooked on the sport.  Maybe charge them a refundable deposit to make sure the GPS comes back.

What do you think????

I don't have an old unit, but I may be attending this event.  I've just found out that Neys park is looking for an astronomy talk this summer.  If I can convince them that the August long weekend would be a good one to have it on, then I may just make it out to the caching.  Hopefully no one else has any plans for me that weekend!

We have an old garmin etrex, only problem is there is no cord to transfer data, so the coordinates would have to be entered manually. We will drop it off the next time by.

Not 100 % sure Tammy, but so far no. Having Sunday and Monday off, we would get Tues. off as well for the stat holiday. We would be there when everything is over, LOL. We will be by before that though, and drop off the gps, you can even keep it at the store. We have no need for it. It would be good for someone staying at the campground that may want to try geocaching.

Not sure of the date exactly but she said she would put it in closer to the date.  I will keep watch and alert you when it happens.
