2nd Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival Cache Event
« on: August 12, 2010, 10:32:55 PM »
Well we kinda dropped the ball on the event this year.  We just got back from a three week camping trip and realized that the festival is coming  very very soon.  Shawna will have some more details on the particular day and such,  it's already in the brochure for the festival I believe.  Last year some people offered to hide some caches.  If they or anyone else is able to help out it would be very much appreciated.  I don't think shes planning on doing it the same as last year where you collected business cards.  I think it will more of your standard type event.  Which I hate to say, I'm not that familiar with due to the fact we haven't made it to any other events as of yet.  How does it usually work?  You get points for hiding caches and different points for finding them?

If you need a hand with some hides, I can probably give you a hand, but I'll be on my way Peru on the Labour Day long weekend, and won't be able to help out then.

Yeah if you could that would be great.  We'll have to get an event posted on geocaching.com real soon so you can post them.

You know what we liked about the Nipigon event last year was just making the trip out, searching for a bunch of caches, meeting up with folks on the trail and meeting BASK at the diner. Our "challenge" events in TBay are a bit of an anomaly, as you're really not supposed to host event type caches for the purpose of finding other caches. My advice for the "game" part of the NFFF cache event is, keep it simple (we do like the caches, so please do hide some more for this year) and if you'd like I can set up a form so that folks can self-report on the caches they've found and we can make a little chart of who found what a few days after the event.

Hmm, now I'm thinking... Fall Cache Challenge... :)

Thanks for the advice shroom.  I do like the idea of keeping it simple.  We do plan to hide some caches ourselves but not as many as last year.  And were going to keep them a little closer to town I think.  That way the cachers don't have to get here first thing in the morning, and it gives them a chance to check out what else is going on with the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival.  The official time for the meet and greet at the Nipigon Cafe will be at 10:00 am saturday september 4th, not at 8 am as printed in the NFFF brochure.  We know this is short notice but hopefully we'll see lots of people out this way.

We should get together over a map and decide where to put some caches, so we're not both hiding in the same spot.  Maybe one day after work?  Folks can do my series down  by the Recreation trail too, if they want.

Good luck on the event, pnutbeagle and I will be travelling back from the East coast on that weekend back to Marathon to load the car trailer with furniture and other stuff for our new home in Green Hill Nova Scotia.

We also have tenant from our house in Marathon for the time we are on the East Coast working.  (AT Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation)

I took the kids to the marina tonight so I could get a start on your series.  However I didnt read through the description and missed that part about needing a writing stick!  Might go again tomorrow.  We could get together one night soon.  I'm not really sure where I plan on putting any.  I was just going to load up and go out and find some spots on the fly.  I think the wife has a few spots picked out.  Though one might be too close to one of yours.  When is a good time for you?  I should be free any day after 4:30.

The reviewers for geocaching.com are really giving me a hard time with the event posting this year.  I made the mistake of mentioning the fall fishing festival which is a no no.  Now I cant even use the name 2nd Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival Event Cache.  Next I think they will give me a hard time about it being "AT" the cafe.  And all I did was copy and paste from last years posting and change the times and date.  Should I leave out the part about it being at the cafe to?

After 4:30 is good for me too.  I'll call you at work on Monday or Tuesday.

You should be able to say where the wrap-out will be

Otherwise give a reference to the NWOG wensite.

I ended up just removing everything that I thought they may find offensive, not much left of the posting.  I didnt think of mentioning the NWOG site, thats a good idea.

I guess I should clarify a few things for this years event.  The event will officially start at 10:00 with brunch at the Nipigon Cafe.  For those that are coming from out of town for the event, if you want to grab caches on your way here go for it.  There are no prizes for most ftf's or most finds.  In fact we have no prizes at all, sorry.  I know that BP76MR has some prizes for ftf in his caches though.  If people would like to meet at the end of the day we can discuss that at brunch.  There will be quite a few new caches to find.  And it will also be a good oppurtunity to grab some others in the area that you maybe couldn't find or havent gotten a chance to look for yet.  And in between caches you can even stop in at the Nipigon Arena and check out what else is going on this weekend.  I like to stop by the pie booths myself.  Check out www.fallfishingfestival.ca for more info.  If anyone has any questions please feel free to send us a message.

Although we work that day and will not attend, We can donate a 30 cal. ammo can to whoever has the most finds in one day. So someone keep track. Please let us know who had the most finds or ftf's or however you are keeping score. Have fun, enjoy this great area and most of all enjoy the day. We will play in this spectacular area on Sunday or Monday. We missed by one day. Come on out and enjoy this little slice of heaven. 1 hour 10 minutes from Thunder Bay. Or about 40 minutes  if you drive like  Me  ;)
If you don't like the way I drive....Stay off the sidewalk.
