Making Your Car a Travel Bug
« on: July 19, 2008, 09:22:07 PM »
I just came across the following website where you can buy decals with TB numbers on them for your vehicle.  What I great concept I thought!!  If you ever see a maroon pontiac montana driving around town, have a second look at it...it may be a travel bug!! :-)

They also have t-shirts that turn you into a travel bug...

I have one on my 1930 Model A Ford Roadster.
shroomAzoom and the Pepsi's have discovered it.

Mechman: I didn't see a TB on your van when we talked on Saturday evening?

I have the magnetic TB on the Ford.  It is about the same size as the one on your picture.

TB27MR0

MechMama and MechMan have transformed our vehicles into travel bugs for you to "discover". Keep an eye out for a 2005 Maroon Montana or a 2000 Mazada Protege! Both have the same TB number. Please do not move us to another cache. Let us know where you found us.

If you are really keen to find this you can look us up in the phone book.  ;D

The site shows a price of 9.95, do you remember the final cost with shipping ? How long did it take to arrive ? It is a neat idea, and mechmamma wanted Kathy to go out and discover it when she was at Kathy's place of employment, but she could not leave her station, and it bugged her that she did not. She came home and kept mentioning this sticker and wants one. So guess we will be ordering one as well. One day we will find your bug. Don't want to discover it in your driveway.Harder now since mechmammma Andretti (she sure knows where the gas pedal is) stopped driving around with burnt out brake lights.

I don't remember the total - you get two decals and two "dog tags" with the same number.  I've officially been discovered by a geocache newbie from work...saw it in the parking lot, after I told him about it.

Okay, I want to order one of these this weekend. I've got a question though, there are three types (at least) the magnetic metal one (jlee, you've got one of these?) the static cling type and the sticker type. Who has what, what would you recommend. I'll be putting it on my VW, probably in the back side window (unless the metal one is really classy and can go on a curved bit of car.) Please help!

I bought the sticker decal.  It came with two stickers and a set of TB tags.  It installed easily but when I sell my truck the decal goes with it.  I haven't tried it but I would suggest the static cling type.

We had to get the exterior decal. If you have dark tinted windows like we have on our truck, the interior cling decal will not be visible, so something to keep in mind.

The whole point of these is to have people notice them and then log their find, my question to you Shroom is why you want one? I recall you discovering Chris's mobile travel bug as well as ours, yet you never logged it. You slacker LOL It is amazing how few people never even notice.

I have a magnetic one on my Roadster, mainly because I have no windows that I could stick it on if it was a static-cling.

I have a static cling one on my Town Sedan, because I did have a side window to put it on.  The back window was too small to put it on without blocking the window.  I didn't want a magnetic one for it.

I also wanted to be able to remove the TB's easily if I had to.

I only drive these cars on special occasions.

So, how do you like the magnetic/metalic one Jim? Is there any flex to it? Is it good looking? I'm probably going to just get a cling, but the metal one does sound interesting. How big is it?

I will be up in Thunder Bay tomorrow night with the 1930 Model A Town Sedan taking my son and his girlfriend to her Grade 12 Prom.  I think it is at Churchill High if I have it right.  We will be staying at the Econolodge on Memorial.  You may see it there or you may able to see the car on Ryerson St.  or somewhere between.

So if you see the car, please make sure that you discover the Travel Bug, that is attached to rear driver's side window.

The car is black and old - so if you see it honk your horn chase me down, discovered the TB, etc.

Jim

To answer sZm's answer in the previous log,  the magnetic one on the roadster is flexible just like your "John on John" cache.  It is about the same size as the one H-K has on the back window of his truck.
