Nova Scotia Geocaching
« on: May 22, 2010, 10:42:59 PM »
Most people probably already know this:  pnutbeagle and I will be taking up geocaching in Nova Scotia for a couple of years.  I have accepted a job at Northern Pulp in New Glasgow, NS to start on June 1st.  We will be getting out of Marathon on Wednesday next week, but will be back late June to move our stuff.

Hey, a whole new area to geocache in a couple of weeks - 3 provinces within an hours drive of New Glasgow - 4 if you include Newfoundland.  I won't have to travel hours to go geocaching.

First thing we are going to do when we get there is to have an meet and greet event "Meet the Crazies from NWOG"  we will try to have it when the Mechpeople are out there.

So when we return to NorthWest Ontario for retirement in a couple of years, there should still a lot of geocaches to find.

We will miss all the crazy people from the NWOG, but will follow their adventures and miss-adventures through the NWOG web-site.

So if you get out to the New Glasgow are, look us up.  No address yet,  taking the truck and trailer out and will look for something when we get there.

We are also placing to go to the "Maritime Geobash 2010" Megaevent on July 10th.  Team Murfster will be there also.

Take care Jim and Brenda and have fun out on the east coast. Nova Scotia is a beautiful province and I'm sure you will have a blast exploring all it has to offer. I've been there twice and I loved it.

We'll keep the ship running till you get back.

Oh and on a completely unrelated note, we are now accepting offers at NWOG for someone to hide impossible mircos in pine trees.  :-X

All the best, Jim and Brenda.  I agree with WM, the Maritimes is a beautiful part of the world, and there are a great number of interesting caches to search out.
Will be looking for your regular updates on the website.

Hey Jim . It's too bad that we are flying out on the 10th, or else we'd be there at the geobash too.  But we need to travel from Halifax to Fredricton and then hop on an airplane back home that day....

..also...

As far as dates for your planned event - You don't have to plan it around our attendance.  We are only in the Halifax area for a few days, and I am sure will be spending it with family that we havn't seen in years.  What MAY work is if you plan it for July 8.  This is the date that we are travelling from Summerside to Halifax.  I think that passes us right through Truro.  We could make this a stopping point in our travel, if it times are right and there is a geocaching event there. :-).  I looked at taking the ferry (then we'd end up a lot closer to you), but it's too long of a detour for us.

Otherwise you could have it in Halifax area on July 9 - we are in Halifax all day and could spare an hour or so....let me know what you decide.

Good luck with the job, I hope you like lobster! :-)  You will love the east coast, if you get a chance to got to NFLD take it!  It's a great place.

Dave

Take care Jlee.  Although we never met, I always enjoyed MOST of your caches, although I haven't tried that caboose yet.
Be sure to visit Newfoundland while you're out there.  It's a awesome place, and I even have a cache there "Cape Onion - The Mark" GC1W1X6.  (Sorry don't know how to do a link).  It's the Northernmost cache on the island.
Happy Caching to you and all the various beagles.

Reporting from Hopewell Rocks area - we will have to wait until low tide tomorrow morning before we adventure onto the sea bottom.
Tonight has been the first good internet service we have had since we left home on Wednesday morning.
The weather has been great - some rain finally tonight as we pulled into the campground, but it is sunny again.
We will be off after supper to grab a few caches.  We have only been picking up a few per day on the way or otherwise we would never get here.

Miss us yet?

No lobster yet!!

Do we miss you ? Of course, need someone here with a sense of ha ha.  Sounds like you are going to have some fun times out there. You will get the crabs. And of course Lobsters.  We will keep in touch, and if you need maintenance on one of your caches in Blunder Bay, let us know Jim. Going to miss you two. All the best to you and Brenda. P.S   No P.S  ;)

Nothing needs maintenance at the moment, I think
If you could keep an eye on the Marina - when they are finished their work there, let me know and I will enable CN 78175.
If you go past "20th Side Road" cache, could you take a quick look to see if it is still there?  I have had several DNF's in a row.  Don't make a special trip for it - only if you are going by.

Thanks for the offer to help me out with the maintenance.

No problem Jim we cruise after work, grab a coffee, so we will have a look, and bring a spare just in case, but I doubt it.
