NWOG's Coin Race 2010
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:10:39 AM »
Haven't heard much on the 2010 Race.  Are we starting it at the on May 15 at the SCC dinner?  Should we be bringing our tracking numbers to the event?

If we are having a race, it would be best to start at now so the coins have time to move before the winter.

I added a poll to see how many members are interested in a geocoin/ TB race.

I'm for sure in for doing another race this year. I need to redeem myself after last years poor performance. Starting it at the SCC dinner would be a great idea.

For those without a Travel Bug, if you are found CITOing during the SCC event, you could be rewarded with a TB or geocoin.

I'm in for a race starting at the SCC. Should I put together some paper "tags" like we used last year?

Why not count me in.

Any new rules I can NOT break?  LOL

I'm game for another race.  I'll have to see if I can get another pilot to take care of my coin for me.   ;D

Unfortunately, I will be in Timmins during the SCC, so I will not be able to attend the dinner and the kick-off for the race, if that's when it begins.

This year, let's make it clear as to when the race starts and ends, so there is no confusion like last year.

Here's an updated version of the coin race tag for this year. Chris, let me know if you want me to make any changes to the wording of the goals, in case things change a bit this year. I'll email you the full sheet version so that it's easy to print off a bunch. Happy to leave this year's race in your's and WM's capable hands.  ::)

Interested for sure . I don't know the details or anything on how to go about it. I have a coin out there already that has been picked up and they do not seem too interested in dropping it off...lol. So I don't know how far I would get in a race.... Mike

Check out the Manitoba "Cache the Marsh IV" Event

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=69facb78-d510-4623-8d28-4dca2d95ddbf

for their "Great MBGA Stampede" Geocoin race.

(Interesting twist in rule 3 compared to the NWOG coin race)

or from the event listing:

Participate in the Great MBGA Stampede

Buy one of the beautiful MBGA 5 Year Anniversary Geocoin for $15 ($10 for the coin and $5 for the prizes) and enter your coin in a race starting the day of the Cache the Marsh Event and ending at the MBGA AGM next year.

Every coin will be deposited in a cache called "Bison" the day of the event and will stampede across the world in the hope of raking up the most mileage until closing day next year.

Rules are:

1) A cacher must not move his own coin

2) The same cacher must not "dip" the coin in many caches. Only one cache per cacher and a different cacher must pick up the coin every time.

3) Mileage will be calculated based on the information on TB map and only until midnight the day before the AGM. Coin mileage will be verified at the AGM and winner(s) will be awarded their prize(s) during the AGM

4) Coins will be available for purchase at the Cache the Marsh event or on-line at www.mbga.ca

What's up with the Albertans?   You would think that they have never seen a TB or an elephant before!  cinematopographer seems to have picked up where darnsocks left off!

Man, I can't remember much these days. When is this year's coin race over? Did we kick it off at the SCC last year?

Read the rules section.. :P

It ends April 30th @ 11:59pm. Although the way coins are moving these days, or rather not moving, it seems the race is pretty much over already.

W_M, the race is already over?  My traveler just jumped over 7000km... still has a bit to catch up with Mechman but I still can hope.
