Playing with the newest update (v3.7) to the Oregon.  It allows you to create custom symbols  :).  They have also added bird'seye view to BaseCamp, which allows you to upload satillite photos.  The bad new is there is an annual fee of $30.00 :( ; but they do allow you to download a small area as a demo.

Which Oregon do you have Chris?

I've been reading up on them and it seems that the major difference between the 300 and 400 is the ability to change the contrast on the screen. I was wondering which one you had and if you felt that function was worth the extra coin.

I have the 400t.  The contrast is usually set to full, to compete with the sun.  You have to manually turn the contrast down in the evening (to save battery life), unlike an iPod which senses the brightness.

Is battery life an issue at all? I'd hate to get something new only to find out I'm sucking back the batteries now.

I don't think battery life is a problem; I'm just saying you can conserve the life (just the same as Map 60CX when you shut down WAAS).  I am just impressed with the fact that Garmin keeps updating the software to include more features then when I bought it.  If you want to do a trial before you buy, you can borrow the Oregon for a night this week.

I'm not 100% I want to get one right away, but I do know that I really want the ability to do paperless caching, and I'm not always that happy with the way my GPS holds a signal, especially in the forest or on cloudy days.

So really I'm just exploring options right now to enhance my caching experience :D

We just got a new GPS, a DeLorme Earthmate PN-40, and it does paperless geocaching, seems to be pretty accurate and we got it for $220 which included all the maps.  I'm not good with the details of stuff.. but we are happy with it so far (we'll see how it performs in the SCC!)

Wow that DeLorme looks pretty cool. And it sounds like you got a pretty good deal on it too. How are you finding it stacking up in the accuracy department?

Pretty good so far for accuracy -  usually we are within 2-3m or right on even in the bush (although we haven't tested in really dense bush yet)  Seems as good as our previous GPS so far and I really liked that one!

I just picked up a new delorme earthmate PN40. After hearing about the value for the price it was a no brainer. It will function as paperless caching. The included maps seem pretty decent. You can even get satellite images if you want for US only I think. I'll write more after a bit of use.
