New Detailed Topo Maps for Garmin
« on: March 25, 2010, 10:56:23 AM »
Hey, I just came across a Canadian company that does topo maps for Garmin GPSrs. Theirs are of higher detail and include many more features (?) than the Garmin maps. Things like buildings, fences, ATV trails, swamps/marshes, quarries, caves, etc.

http://www.canadianmaps.ca/GPS_Garmin_Maps/Maps_for_GARMIN_GPS.htm

They also have a line of bathymetric charts including a lot of the major lakes up here in NWOnt. There's a free download for a sample. Looks interesting.

Looks interesting, but a little too pricey for me to bother.

I'll stick to my nice mapsource topos.

just a heads up, the topo canada file only takes up about 600MB on your GPSr and just loads what is needed when ur using it, the only time it will take a little while to load is when you go into a different grid, this file Provides detailed maps based on digital 1:250,000 and 1:50,000 scale DMTI data, better then what the MNR uses on their devices, and is also in 3D if your device can support it!

total price is average an approx $170 CDN per file, 7 files = $1200 CDN, topo canada is only 1 file, road maps is 3 files converted into 1!, fishing and lake maps are in 3 files.

Illegal ? Since when ?  ;) huh. Didn't know that. Of course one would be or at least should be running peer guardian in the background and making sure it is up to date. Glad I don't do that.

Sorry guys. Had to remove one of the replies in this topic. We (and by that, I mean I) could get into trouble for it. Keep it on the above-board please.

Stumbled on this thread, thought I would share this:

http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/#Download

these are FREE topo maps that rival Garmin's V4 (i like them better)
Not a torrent, not pirated, just offered free with a quest for donations.
I don't know where I found this, or even who makes em, but I love em.
The topo detail is pretty good. highlights 'wooded areas' and fields as different areas...etc.
check it out.

Just went and checked out that page and it looks like you have to get them from a torrent now because of his hosting provider not allowing 3gb+ files now or something. But they do look really good, Personaly I use city navigator for turn by turn directions to the cache. HK dont use mininova, thepiratebay is the best site for torrents  ;)
