Just some info on the GeOlympics for those attending the 10 Years Event in Thunder Bay on Sunday. One of the events is a waypoint projection exercise, so brush up on that skill with your GPS. You could also bring a compass along if you want to try it the old fashioned way. Also, in the mental gymnastics event you'll be asked to complete a wordsearch, estimate the coords for a Thunder Bay landmark, and answer some who hid the most/found the most geocacher trivia. The final event will have you searching for geocache containers (without giving you waypoints!) so be sure to have your contact lenses in and your glasses polished! Should be fun!

One final thought. Fire ban. Do you think we'll be able to use the BBQ pits to roast our hotdogs or whatever?

I phoned the Vicker's Street Fire hall and was told that if using provided fire pits Charcoal briquettes are fine to use, :D but not wood  :( So you can still cremate your favorite outdoor quick meal, be it pig snouts and ears, or fat and Grissel patties. I'll stick to the tofu Italian sausages.  :-\
If you don't like the way I drive....Stay off the sidewalk.

Animals taste good.

Learn how to use a compass. Gps is fine until it does not work, and it sucks to have to eat your friends to live.

We have an 18 pound bag of charcoal briquettes and enough charcoal lighter fluid to keep an arsonist happy for a week. I think I'll soak a few pieces of hickory as well just for that smokey goodness. Should be able to burn something to eat with that.

I completely forgot that there is a fire ban right now. Good thing someone is thinking ahead.

Nice work on the fact finding and the acquisition of supplies H-K.

It would appear this won't be an issue now. It would appear that the fire ban was lifted today as of noon Click here for more info.

It looks like it is going to be a good sunny day for the event in Marathon and Thunder Bay tomorrow

Have a good time

Fire Ban Lifted
Published on April 30, 2010 by NNL Staff   ·   No Comments

MNR Fire CodeTHUNDER BAY – The cool, damp weather, along with showers in the forecast have allowed officials with the MNR to lift the fire ban that was in effect in Northwestern Ontario. At noon today, the Restricted Fire Zone across Northwestern Ontario was lifted. Campfires for cooking and warmth are now allowed in this area.

On Friday, April 23, the Restricted Fire Zone was ordered due to the extreme fire hazard and unusually dry spring conditions which resulted in increased forest fire activity. The restrictions are no longer required as the fire hazard has eased due to precipitation across region.

Forest fire prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Residents should avoid burning brush or grass and should consider composting or chipping as alternatives.
