Is Cascades open then?  I  remember reading something in the paper about them shutting it for tree clearing or something

Oh, I hadn't heard, but I'll look into it. If we have to change locations, we can do so. Thanks for the heads-up, Mech.
PS: Time to harvest your strawberries. :)

I was at the Cascades this weekend (no particular reason ;) ) and didn't notice any postings about it being closed. I'll keep my eyes open for info though.

Also, don't hold your breath, but I might have a line on a couple or three 10 Years Ontario geocoins. Keep your fingers crossed, we may have an attendance prize out of them! :)

The Cascades was closed from Feb 16th to March 4th to clean up wind damaged trees.   Looking forward to the event.

Good news! I've managed to secure a couple of coins for the event! At least one of them will be given away as a prize for someone in attendance. So there you go, more incentive to celebrate 10 Years!

What about the non-attendance prize? I'm not quite sure how to get rid of that one (but it won't simply be to the first one to ask, so don't ask.) ;)

For those who are interested to know, the 10 Years! coins that will be making their way to the 10 Years event (and going home with you, maybe!) are really nice looking. Different colourings for different regions, so our coins won't be these exact colours.

Pretty snazzy, eh?  8)

And the bad news is... no coins for the event. The organizer of the 10 Years coin project has asked for the coins not to be distributed before the events. Because I am not getting the coins directly from the organizer, but from a participant, the participant is honouring the organizer's request to not send them out early.

I can still get the coins, but only after the event, so if I do, you won't "win" your 10 Years coin until it arrives in TBay, a week or so after the event. S'ok?

Good thing we have another event less than two weeks after the 10 year!  8)

sZm:

Looks like you were working with the same source as me (ELTADA) because they told me the same thing this morning.

But they did say something about

"If you would like to raffle off a "reservation" for a coin, I would be happy
to honour that and even ship directly to the winners provided there are
coins remaining after our events (which I do think there will be)".

I said that I would go for this plus if they have any left over after the event that I would be interested.

I have paid for the last 4 coins that the other source had. (different event)

Okay, so here's the tentative itinerary for the 10 Years! (Thunder Bay) Event...

This Sunday afternoon at the Cascades

1:00p Arrive & Mingle & get those BBQ fires going
1:15p Roast hotdogs and stuff on the BBQs (if we're permitted to)
1:35p Group Photo
1:40p GeOlympic Games! (Three Events)
  • Waypont Projection
  • Mental Gymnastics
  • Find the Cache
2:15p Award the 10 Years! Geocoin prize
2:20p Hang out, eat more hotdogs, find caches at the Cascades, etc.

Currently, the forecast is 40% POP. There's a pavilion to keep dry under, but two of the GeOlympic Games will require you to be out, under the sky, so dress for the weather. Bring your own fire-roastable food, roasting sticks, and if you've got some wood for the fire, bring that too! Looking forward to seeing you all there. Remember, if we have at least 10 people, we get a special event icon! Woo!

When they say we need 10 people to get the fancy new icon, do they mean 10 individual GC.com accounts? or just ten people. One seems much easier to get then the other.

I'm not sure. And I don't know how they count if, if it's logged attenders or RSVPs + Attended logs. Best to do both and get everyone in the photo too!  ;)

I interpreted it as ten people.  I don't remember reading anything that said that you had to have 10 accounts.  At my event I know that I will have jleecollins, pnutbeagle, spikybeagle and The Monster Beagle.  So that's 4 account to start
