SCC Discussion

Okay, here's a first draft of the SCC 2010 Rules. There may be some changes and additions over the next couple days, but this should give you enough info to start planning. I will post a map of the Cache Zones in the next few days and if you have suggestions for other Bonuses and Cache Categories, please post them here!

Thanks!

Just added the SCC 2010 Logo to the SCC Rules post. Check it out and get the code to add the image and link to your cache descriptions! Oooh la la! :)

I have the following Event setup for the SCC:

WWFM VII - Polka Dots at the Pagoda - Event - GC232C1

May 15, 2010 - 1PM

I just re-submitted the event again today after the reviewer asked me to wait until after Feb. 15 to submit.

We have a few questions and apologize if this is widely known information, but we're new to the NWOG and are very much looking forward to participating in the SCC.

1. So anytime from now its okay to submit caches for review, of course with the provision that they be held until May 12 by the approver?

2. With the large number of caches in a finite area being introduced all at one time I would think there is a high potential that multiple new caches might be hidden too close to each other unknowingly.  Do the cache reviewers prevent this from happening?  If so, is it the first submission that wins out (i.e. first submitted, first served sort of thing)?

3. By May 9th we have to submit our information to shroomAzoom consisting of cache name, cache listing #, cache category - is that all?

I guess that's it for now - I'm sure we'll have more questions later although kudos for the rules being so well done.
Reality - accept no substitution.

1.When you submit your cache, indicate under "Note to Reviewer" that the cache is to be held for publication until May 12.

2.  Yes, the reviewer will keep track of the caches to be published and will notify the cache owner if he/she is too close to another close that has been already submitted for the event and is being held.  I know this from previous experience.

3.  Yes that is about it for what you need to submit to sAz. - He will take it from there.

sZm - make any comment you wish or any corrections.

Thanks Hunters-5. As Jim has confirmed, you've got it right. The sooner you claim your spot, the better chance you have of getting it. :) Glad to know that you'll be along for the ride this year!

Lets get those zones out ASAP

I will be in Thunder Bay next weekend and I am planning to set up a few caches, so it would be nice to know where the zones are before they are placed

As to additional specialty cache categories to come ... we'd like to see the handcrafted cache category included as was done for the 2009 SCC.  We've almost completed hides and submissions for the Regular, Multi and Puzzle cache categories and have a special one we'd like to submit under handcrafted, that otherwise also would fall under a regular.  We'd kind of planned it this way, based on last years rules.  Our other hides follow a theme that we hope everyone will enjoy - I think I'm personally getting just as much fun out of planning these hides as I do when hunting for caches.

And thanks shroomAzoom for getting the zones map posted so quickly.

Okay, as you may have noticed, along with simplifying the cache zones over the last couple days, I've tweaked the rules a bit too. I've added some of the favourite specialty categories; Night, Handcrafted and Off the Beaten (aka A Good Hike.) Thanks for the encouragement to do so.

I've also worked the bonus points section a bit; removed the coffee cup CITO (but still CITO!) and noted that there are only six zones for the In the Zone bonus.

I've found it easy to summarize the hiding rules by saying, "Only hide one cache in each category, only hide one cache in each zone." Of course, you can get a extra hide, but that expresses the rules simply.

Please make sure you read over the section describing various cache sizes. Last year (and at the FCC) there were caches hidden that were clearly not the size they purported to be. Let's make sure we all know what we're searching for this year. :)

As we did last year, we're giving JLee special dispensation to hide an event cache for the WWFM (which was a blast last year, try to make it out if you can!) Thanks, Jim for using one of your zone 1 hides to host this event!

Jenny and I have got some plans ready to implement and I hope to get out this weekend to make our first hide. I'll be starting the Official SCC 2010 Caches thread soon. Be sure to email me your cache info when you hear from the reviewers that they've been approved. Send me your cache: Name, GC#, Category and Zone. I'll start adding to the list when the caches start rolling in.

Woo!

Man you all seem hardcore at this, what with the hiding caches already and all..

Am I the only one who realizes this is still two and a half months away?  :P

One gets the best spots when they get their caches out early.

I'm not too concerned. At this point I've identified over 100 cache locations in the T-bay area. So I'm sure at least some of them will be open for me to use  ;)

Did I mention that our first cache for the SCC (and it'll be one that you'll be talking about at the dinner afterwards :) ) is ready to go? Oh boy, I forgot how fun this is.
