Family CITO - EarthDay
«

I am working on a CITO (Cache In Trash Out) for Earth Day. Earth Day is on April 22 (a Thursday); so I am planning the event for either Sat, April 24 or Sun. April 25.
This will be a family event and at this time it is being planned for the Bluffs. Expect this event to be more than just CITO; I plan to add some caching and games.

Where is the "either" choice?
Sounds like a good event in a location that could sure use a cleaning.

Would we converge on just one area or the area in general ? We all know that the bottom is real dirty and contains a lot of electronic junk, T.V's microwaves etc. but may be non accessible on that date due to snow. All in all a beautiful spot to try and clean up. Every little bit helps. We are available on Sunday.

We can do Saturday in the morning or afternoon, or Sunday in the afternoon. Sounds like a good time, especially the games! Looking for ward to it. Thanks for organizing it Chris. Do you know when we might do our spring highway cleanup?

My first thoughts are of blackflies
My second thoughts are that this is shaping up to be a busy summer of caching in Thunder Bay! Sounds like we are going to have a ton of killer events (that's killer as in the hip way kids say it, and not the cacher Killer
)

We could do the Highway clean up the week after the SCC, if there is a blackfly concern. I was just trying to put space between the events.

It looks like we will go with the Sunday event, I am thinking of a noon start time until 4-5pm.
The city has approved the clean up at the bluffs and has agreed to remove the garbage collected.
I will write up the event this weekend.

Great - I mentioned this to someone at work and they suggested that we get a quad with a trailer to haul the big stuff out. Not a bad idea..we should also make an appeal to other groups that use this pathway - climbers/skiiers etc?? Posting signs on the trail would be a good idea too. Perhaps send a notice to eco-superior and conservation authority to get their media contacts going...many hands will make light work!

Thanks Mechman for the ideas; I have a few sponsors in mind for the event and will definately open it to non-cachers. With it being Earth Day, am I sure we could get a little press. I have already talked with eco-superior but I believe the LakeheadCA has clean up events on their areas. I will talk with the city about posting signs.

Wow sounds like this event is shaping up to be a big one!
Chris have you been in touch with the parks department at the city? I believe my boss knows the dude in charge over there through connections with the local mountain biking club. If you need contact info I can probably get it.
