WWFM VII - Polka Dots at the Pagoda

World Wide Flash Mob VII: Polka Dots at the Pagoda

An excellent chance to bring your family and friends to a Geocaching Event.

Where:  At the Tourist Pagoda on the corner of Red River Road and N. Water St. near the marina

When: May 15th, 2010 from (times to be posted when I get more details)

Flash Mob is a gathering of geocachers at a predetermined location, who perform some brief action (for this event we will all be taking pictures), and then quickly disperse. The WWFM involves thousands of cachers meeting at hundreds of locations around the world at the same time. The idea of a Flash Mob is to blend in until 1:00pm (when the whistle is blown).

I have a cache listing set up (GC232C1), but have not sent it in for approval yet.  Still working on the details and the theme.

Of course the theme is "Polka Dots at the Pagoda", but I am still working on the requirements from the participants, but don't worry too much - it will involve "Polka Dots".  I was thinking about putting the polka dots back on the roof of the pagoda but I don't the city would like that.
So I am still working on the details

Paper is a biodegradable, renewable, sustainable product made from trees. Growing and harvesting trees provides jobs for millions of men and women, and working forests are good for the environment, providing clean air, clean water, wildlife habitat & carbon credits. Please remember to recycle after.

So, is the theme still to be determined or will we "all be taking pictures" again? :) Looking forward to it never the less. Will it be at 1pm again this year? It was good to meet and then still have a few hours left to find those last few caches for the challenge.

Theme will have something to do with Polka Dots - just have to come up with something.

As for the time.  I can not find anything on the podcachers web site yet for a time for the WWFM VII - so at this time I will assume  1:00 pm like the last couple.  No body else has posted this event yet either.

I have left a post on the podcachers forum asking for the time

The cache reviewer has requested that I wait until February 15 to submit this event cache.

At least the NWOG group knows when the event is and what the theme is.

The Chronicle Journal had a nice write up on the Pagoda on page A7 of their Sunday edition (Feb. 7).  Some background on the structure as well as the history of the Poka Dots were mentioned.  Hard to believe it will be 100 years old this month.

I've got a bunch of old scans of photos of the waterfront that come from my interest in local railroads. In them, there are a few old old photos of the Pagoda. I have one that I had dated 1909 that has the Pagoda in it. Maybe it will be of interest to you too?

Jim, I have a copy of the Sunday paper.  I could scan the article and email it to you if you want, or I could cut it out and snail-mail it to you.

Thanks,  But I managed to get a copy of the article, actually I ended up with 2 copies.

I will update my cache event write-up reflecting on the article.  But when it is finally published, you will see the updated version.

Thanks to everyone for their help and informing me of the article

I just finished digging through the recycling bag and fished out my copy of the CJ and was set to scan the Pagoda article for you.  Ragbag beat me to the offer, but good to see you were able to find a copy yourself.

I got a message a couple of days ago that Podcacher is working on path tags and / or geocoin for WWFMVII.  So hopefully it will be in time for the event.

Cache event has been published - 1st for the SCC2010 Event

One of the requirements for the event is to wear something with Polka dots on it.

Who is prepared to wear Polka Dots shorts over their regular clothes for the event?

What you wear is only limited by your imagination
