I think I heard somewhere that tbaytel either has it, or will have it shortly.

But since I hate cellphones I'm probably not the most reliable source.

Rogers is the only one in Thunder Bay with the iPhone. Of course, the iPhone already has the GPS chip in it, so you'd only need the app, not the GPSr Cradle. I'm not holding my breath for TBayTel to get the iPhone.

Which is exactly why I have a Tbaytel blackberry, AND a ipod touch.  There is a few blackberry apps out there if you have a GPS enabled blackberry....mine is a curve 8330, and does have GPS, but I've never been able to get it to really work all that well.  Besides - it all goes against your data count for the month....so my caching adventures consiste of ipod touch with the geocaching app from ground speak (that needs a bit of an update for the touch....seems too iphone geared).

My son spikybeagle uses his Blackberry for geocaching.  He is with Telis in Southern Ontario.  I do not know his model number

After seeing this app in action on Shroom's ipod touch at the 10 year event, we had to download it. All I have to say is, "The best 10 buck's We have ever spent. Sweet. 1,000 cache pocket query for Mn. and room for alot more. LOL  Gotta love it. Just have to finally take the Ipod touch to a spot that has a known wifi spot. We are not in Seattle. We're  not right ?

Thanks Chris. Appreciate that. We will have to take the touch for a car ride after work tomorrow.

Got all the SCC'10 caches into itouch, but was wondering if there is a way to see all the caches in a saved pocket query on a map at the same time...I thought that I did it once before, but I can't seem to remember how now....using geocaching app from groundspeak...

Okay, remember ChrisDom was telling us about this Cradle you can slip your iTouch into that is a GPSr? Well, the thing is shipping internationally now. (Just got my reminder email about it.)

Having checked out the review for it though, it seems the early adopters were keen, but there has been a spate of poor reviews recently. All in all, I really like the idea, but I think I'm going to pass on this one. Especially at $200. Too bad. It could have been really cool.

A couple of notes:  TBayTel will provide high speed data service for iPhone and other 3G devices Oct 1st in Thunder Bay, Dryden and Kenora.  By the end of 2010 most of the communities out west and a couple in the east will be upgraded to 3G.  By June of 2011 pretty much every community in TBayTel's serving territory from the edge to Sault Ste. Marie to the Manitoba border will have 3G.  Good news for all the iPhone users.

I have been using a BlackBerry Storm with CacheBerry ($9.99 one time fee) and it is working very well.  Recently CacheBerry upgraded their application so it will keep the GPS receiver active (user selectable) which makes for instant compass rendering.  This uses a bit more battery power, but they are rechargeable so no big deal.  A car charger is handy.

I've found that cell phone GPS recievers are not as sensitive as a dedicated GPS, however there are higher sensitivity recivers that can connect to your phone via bluetooth such as the BT-359; URL:  http://www.usglobalsat.com/p-214-bt-359c.aspx.  Something to consider if you want a better paperless experience and more accurate cache finds.

You may have guessed that I work at TBayTel.

Cheers
What a great country!

Surpriseme - I've heard that the upcoming switchover to Rogers means that we may all need to get our phones changed too?  CDMA vs GSM...  ...any truth to that?  I've got a blackberry 8330 from tbay tel that I am happy with, but would prefer an Iphone.  I'm wondering if we do need to switch over to a GSM phone - if there may be an opportunity to switch phone models too....hmmm...

I downloaded a 15 day trial Cacheberry, but found it bulky to use.  I also dont like that it takes so long to get a GPS signal lock on the blackberry.  Anyway...that's my 2c.
