Ney's Geocaching Frenzy Event II - 2010 Version
« on: December 29, 2009, 09:58:30 AM »
Tammy of Ney's Lunch is starting to plan for the 2010 Ney's Geocaching Frenzy Event and has asked me to get the discussion going for this.

First thing to do is to get a preference for the date.  Last year, it was held on the long weekend in August. This weekend last year had a lot of things going on which possibly prevented some geocachers from attending.

So there are probably some options:

1) Long weekend in August
2) Labour Day weekend in September (nights are getting longer)
3) a regular weekend in July
4) A regular weekend in August
5) weekend with no rain or fog - if you can predict that, you must be very good.

So let us know by posting a reply to this subject.  Please also a possible date if you are looking at a regular weekend in July or August.

We will add other questions as Tammy works through the details of the event (activities, etc.)

Jim

I'd like to attend this years event.  Mid-August doesn't work for me; Labour Day does sound best but does the Nipigon Fall Festival occur at the same time (assuming there will be another caching event).

Usually long weekends are reserved for family at camp, so I'd suggest a regular weekend. Like Chris, mid-August and on is un-doable for us. We'd like to make it out this year, even if it's just a day trip. (Which it probably would be for us.)

I cant speak for my wife for sure, but I know she is planning on doing the NFFFCE again this coming year.  Perhaps the events could be on different days that weekend.  I'll let shawna know there is a discussion going on so she can comment.  Personally I like the idea of having it in the heat of the summer.  We love camping and would stay at the park that weekend, assuming my wife can get the required days off.

I forgot about the Nipigon event on the Labour Day weekend.  It was a great 1-day event.

Well, a two-day weekend would make it possible for us to attend. Long weekends in the summer are reserved for family time at camp. I know, I'm not had-core enough. :) I can see us waking early, driving out for the Saturday portion and returning home after the bonfire.

Remember it is about a 3.0-3.5 hour drive from Thunder Bay to Marathon,  2.5 hours if you are H-K.

If you leave early it, it still gives lots of time for the event.

And an additional bonus - the days are longer in July.

I think I favour a 2-day weekend also.

I like the idea of a 2-day event, and I would suggest the weekend before the August long weekend.  That way, those who are camping on the long weekend could have a chance to try out their camping gear, and Tammy wouldn't have to hide quite as many of her devious caches!

right Bob... not so many and no camo tape!!

I'm not available on July 24th so how would July 17th and 18th work for everyone?

It's hard to project that far out for us, but tentatively, those sound like good dates. I like that they're in mid-July.

The 17th of July doesn't work for us, because we have a wedding to attend that day. At this time, that seems to be the only bad weekend. :(

So after some discussion at Jim's Coffee Klash it sounds like July 10 & 11 might be the best weekend to hold the second Neys Frenzy..... How do you folks in Thunder Bay feel about that weekend?

Although it's a little early to say for sure, those dates seem OK to me .
