« on: September 05, 2009, 08:06:54 AM »
Hi to all

Just wondering if there are members here from the Kenora area? Just starting out in the sport and would be great to met others locally for guidance

I am not sure if there are any Kenora members but you should try Manitoba's site at http://www.mbgeocaching.ca/.

Hey Sarada! Good to have another Kenora cacher on the site! We have good friends in Kenora and a camp in Vermillion Bay, so we get to Kenora a few times a year for caching. We've really enjoyed a number of the caches there, but that darn Railroad Queen has evaded us for years! Next time we're heading that way, I'll ask you for a hint. That is, if you've already found it! :)

Hehe I haven't found that one or the museum one yet...bunch of bums are always hanging around the museum. I haven't attempted Railroad Queen yet due to how busy DQ has been since I started geocaching only a month ago. We'll have to search together ;)
My dad has a camp not far north of Vermillion...Cedar lake lodge. If I liked him I'd go visit and place a cache there as it's on an island :P I suppose I could pretend for a night, borrow a boat and go hide a good one :P

yes the museum is hard to get to for the reasons you mentioned.  And the dairy Queen cache has stumped me a number of times. Either to many people around or just cannot locate it.

Found most caches in the Kenora area are very easy to find/get to. Coney Island caches are good as long as you have a boat.

Thinking of placing a few caches out in the Lac Lu area.  And if you want to walk looking at setting on  that will be a good hour one way.

Would like to see a local geocache group start up as there a afew of us around.

Feel free to take advantage of NWOG. Marathon has a number of cachers who associate within NWOG and organize themselves here. If need be, we can set up regional boards. We're happy to help out where we can.

Thanks shroomAzoom

So  how many are interested in forming a Kenora Geocaching group?  Send me a pm and we'll try to set up a met and maybe a few simple cache searches.

I'd be interested but like I mentioned...with 3 kids under 3 its hard for me to get away.

Whitewolf...I hid a cache near Minaki...FTF is available, there are also two more up that way past mine that are new, posted by Canadianwildflower. Long drive but sure is nice to get away :D

Meh, it's a quick one, they'd never know.

I'm not from Kenora so finding hiding spots it kinda tough...I just pulled over on my way home from two FTF...I know long drive but I needed a break :P
Anyways, pulled into a boat launch and found a quick hiding spot. Shouldn't take more then 5-10 minutes to find, although there have been easier ones that took me a while :P

Let me know if you do a NWOG event in Kenora.  I could donate some NWOG brochures and NWOG geocache stickers (might even have a spare NWOG geocoin....if you also promote NWOG CITO (cache in trash out)).
