Fall Cache Challenge Rules
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:57:17 PM »
Alright, it's late at night (for me) but here are some rules to get us started...

Fall Cache Challenge Rules

Hides:
First Hide 5pts
Second Hide 3pts
Third Hide 1pt
Cache Not Found: -3pts

Note:
  • Your hides should be small, regular or large in size. As a provision to urban hiders, one cache may be a micro (either one of your traditional caches, or a stage in a multi or puzzle cache.)
  • You may hide up to two traditional caches and one mystery/puzzle, multi or earthcache.
  • Obviously your hides must be within the Current River area boundaries listed elsewhere (and pictured here.)
  • Be sure to ask the volunteer cache reviewer to publish your cache on Wednesday September 30th and make a note on your cache listing that the cache should not be hunted before the Fall Cache Challenge. (You know the drill, if you don't, ask me.) :)
  • Any cache hides that don't conform to these rules can still be part of the challenge, but will not earn you any points for the hide.

Finds:
Finding a Cache: 3pts
First/Second to Find Bonus: +1pt

Start/Travel
The Fall Cache Challenge will start at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 3. We all start together from the same place (see cache listing coordinates.) You must be back at these coordinates by 5:00pm for scoring and the meal together. For the Fall Cache Challenge travel around Current River will be limited to non-combustion-engine. That means, you'll want to bring your roller blades, bike, running shoes, or bus pass. :)

Just to help you place your caches "in the zone" so to speak. I've made a Google Earth overlay for Current River. Hope this helps!

And to identify your cache as a Fall Cache Challenge 2009 cache, please use this snippit of code in your cache description. Remember to check the box indicating you're using HTML.

Code: [Select]

Okay... Didn't really think anyone would want to put a cache there. :) Oh yeah, don't forget... Cache Not Found -3pts! Don't put a cache on the breakwall (I'm saving that for winter!) :P

Not a good idea, Shroom  -  you can get into mucho trouble of you venture onto the ice in the harbor......
There are 10 types of people  -  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Show it as a small. LOL small micro. Warning!!!! there is a small medium at large.
If you don't like the way I drive....Stay off the sidewalk.

Animals taste good.

Learn how to use a compass. Gps is fine until it does not work, and it sucks to have to eat your friends to live.

I was thinking about the micro thing. My idea behind not including (or at least limiting) micros in the past couple of challenges was to guide us away from hiding tiny little caches that no one can find (or are at least frustrating to find.) Think the Nipigon weekend. I didn't hear anyone complaining that there were no micros to find.

That said, Chris has a good point that in urban areas, allowing micros can mean the difference between being able to hide a cache, or not being able to at all. So, I'm going to amend the hiding rules to allow one micro hide per cacher. Use it as one of your traditionals (if you need to) or as one of the stages of a multi. Also, try to keep your micro hide in the spirit of "urban micro" as opposed to "needle-in-a-haystack."  :P

Does that sound fair?

Micro's are never fair...  :P

But I can understand where Chris is coming from. Hopefully the -3 for not found caches will keep people from going too crazy with them.

It's just that I have a micro that I have been waiting to hide.  Don't worry, I always give hints.

Just a question/comment here.....for the teams that cache as couples (or groups)....I'd like to propose an "official" rule that both (all) members of the couple (group) that are participating in the event must be present for each find.

Just looking at closing some loopholes... ;D

Not sure if the question has ever come up or not yet....

And I am sure because we are all ethical cachers that we follow this rule already, due to the circumstances that may follow involving wet noodles....

Good point Mech. I think it's understood, but good to have clarified! For what it's worth, Jenn and DNF are going to search for HR on their own, but I'll be hunting for it on my own for the challenge.
