GC.com Down?
« on: July 03, 2009, 08:57:19 AM »
Has anyone been able to connect to geocaching.com this morning? I was surprised that the GeoMonopoly caches hadn't been published this morning, and when I got online, I noticed I couldn't connect to the gc.com site. I presuming they're having "technical difficulties" this morning and that's why I can't get on their site nor have my caches been published. When was the last time anyone was able to get on?

No, cannot connect either.

Last time I was on, was about midnight last night

I also haven't received any notification that your geomonopoly cahes were published either.

Hopefully the site will get back online today and CacheMinder can get on to publish the first two GeoMonopoly caches.

Re: GC.com Down? Due to Fisher Fire?

I know why geocaching.com is down, I bet. Check out this story about a fire at a major Seattle datacenter. Groundspeak is, of course, based out of Seattle and this would explain the outage. The article says that backend transactions have resumed. No word on when sites will be online again, but a pastor I know of from a Seattle church mentioned over lunch that their church sites will likely be offline for most of the day due to this same fire.

Just thought I'd keep you up to date. :)

Jeremy Irish tweets Adhost website states that the systems may be up by 1pm Pacific. I remain skeptical but hopeful #fisherfire

So, maybe things will be running again by 5pm our time. That's promising for caching this weekend and GeoMonopoly.

I guess that we should be glad that this didn't happen before the SCC

From Jeremy Irish on Twitter

Temp repair is "on schedule to be completed by late this evening" for #fisherfire East. We're in Fisher Plaza East #geocaching.

Temporary. So there may be more down time

Latest intel before I go to bed says that we'll be "back to normal" in the morning. That means, the site will be back in some form and will be SUPER bogged down with users getting ready for the 4th of July weekend. Never fear, we're set though. If you need coords, let me know, I've got just about everything around Thunder Bay in GSAK. I'll hook you up. :)
