2009 Fall Bike Challenge
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:50:08 AM »
Set your calenders for October 3, 2009. It's the second annual Fall Bike Challenge! Last year, this event was the first Eco Cache Challenge held in Westfort. This year, the fall event has been expanded (split) into two events, the urban Bike Challenge and the Backwoods Caching Event.

For the Fall Bike Challenge, we'll spend an afternoon biking around a yet to be determined Thunder Bay neighbourhood, seeking a number of new caches, then we'll meet together for dinner. It should be a good time!

I know this is going to sound crazy, but October 3rd is only six weeks and a few days away! Who cares? Well, that's the date of the Fall Cache Challenge (or whatever we end up calling it!) So, we might want to start giving it a little thought.

The date has been set for Saturday, October 3rd and it will be an afternoon affair like last time. Start at 12 noon and finish at 5pm for super somewhere.

Location for the event has yet to be determined. There have been suggestions for the Northwood area as well as Current River. I'll stick up a poll in the next few days when I get a chance to draft some maps. If anyone has other suggestions, let's hear them.

The last think I can think of for now is how to determine caches to be hidden. Potentially we could have more folks playing this fall than last, so maybe we would want to drop the max hidden caches from four down to three or even two. Perhaps in the regular, multi and puzzle categories?

Any thoughts or suggestions? How about a show of hands of those who think they'll be participating this year?

I think 2 caches would work; any thoughts to help avoid overlap this year?
With out giving too much away, could we at least indicate what streets, parks, etc. have been approved? ???

Yeah two would probably be fine or we could set the number after we figure out numbers of people.  I think that giving a general location for your cache would be a great idea to prevent overlap.  People would still be on their honour not to cheat...just for longer.

Another option for preventing overlap when hiding caches would be to just submit them as regular caches and put a note on the page that they should not be attempted until Oct 3rd. Then when they are published, we could disable them until the day of the challenge. We'd still be on our honour not to search for them early though.
