NWOG Site Changes
« on: June 27, 2009, 04:41:28 PM »
Well, it's been close to a year since we've had the NWOG website up and running. By far, the most popular part of the site is the forums and the software (Simple Machines Forums-SMF) is doing a great job. The other part of the site: the home/front page, the Milestones, Featured Cacher, resources, etc., are all run off of other software (ModXCMS.) Unfortunately, there is no integration between the two. That means that any areas of the "main" site (not the forums) that we would want members to be able to interact with (like a gallery, which we tried,) or something else, would require a separate login. I'd be willing to wager that many of you use the forms almost exclusively and even have the forums bookmarked in addition to (or instead of) the main site URL.

Well, I've been looking into ways to integrate both ends of the site and have found a nice set of tools that works with SMF, that really expands it. It has galleries, articles (like individual webpages,) online-realtime chat, and other neat things. I've installed it (and it didn't wreck the site) but haven't enabled it yet. But, I may be doing so sometime soon. So, consider this your warning that the front end of things may be changing up quite radically soon. You may need to change your bookmarks at some point. If you come straight to the forums, you might need to try the main website URL (http://nwogeocachers.com) But the good news is, your FORUM account will be preserved, as will all the posts and that forum account will become your only account for NWOG. And, we'll have access to some fun new features too.

When will this happen. I'm not sure, I'm going to play around with it a bit first, but probably within the next few days. Thanks for your patience during the transition, hopefully, you won't notice anything but new goodness! :)
