I'm okay with them being calculated from Manitoba... I can't see it having much more of an advantage over someone that managed to get to southern ontario

Maybe some mention as to why the owner themselves cannot contact them ? Due to the rules of the race? 2 weeks is reasonable, especially in the summer months, people are on the move and out caching, but another twist is, what if it was dropped off at a cache that see's only  a few visitors a year, Could we contact the cache owner to ask him to move it along or is that the fate part of the race? It's in a cache and NOT in a persons possession?

I think that the cache container is part of the Fate....

REVISED Potential standard message (to be sent by someone else other than the cacher who's coin is stalled)-

According to geocaching.com you are in possession of a Norwest Ontario Geocachers Coin (Coin #).
The record shows you picked it up at cache XXX on Date, 2009.
This coin is part of a geocoin race.
The owner of this coin has asked me to contact you (as our rules state that coin owners can not contact you directly) and request that you place it in cache shortly.
If you have put it in a cache and forgot log it in as "dropped" at the particular cache please log it in to the cache.
Please reply to me (and not the owner) as to the status of this coin, so I can relay it to the owner.

Is anyone opposed to this rule?

Sounds good Dave. Nicely put. Diplomatic and to the point.

I agree with H/K.  That might just be the incentive to get the coin moving again.

Hey Mech, I appreciate how you're trying to play as fairly and transparently as possible with you note. I was just reading through the rules and the discussion about the coin though, and I can't see where we can't contact people who have our coins. The only thing I thought was close was this...

Quote
Participating cachers are not permitted to move any of the coins, (including their own, once placed in a cache), or interfere with their progress in any way.

When I first read that, I assumes physically interfering, but I suppose that's up to interpretation. Is that what you were thinking of too? Or was there discussion (maybe at the Madhouse) about this? Just curious.

Don't give up on those coins we thought were MIA. I figured one of ours had found a home in someone's pocket!  Four months later, today, it showed up in Hawaii!! Nice trip and a pleasant surprise. And to think I had almost given up hope.

I see that we have a new member in the Top 5 Club!  One of Ruth's (rs x 2) coins is now in Australia!  I calculate its distance travelled as 21,252 km.  Way to go!  NOW we have a real race!
