NWOG Coin Night / Coin Race Event
« on: May 26, 2009, 04:23:23 PM »
This Thursday, May 28th, 7pm, Jenn and I will be at the Madhouse on Bay and Algoma. We're going to have supper and have the NWOG geocoins with us. We'll also have the tags for the coin race and will be recording tracking numbers of coins that will be entered into the race. So, come and join us, pick up your coins, trade coins, have a pint, etc.

Alas, CacheDrone won't let us have an official event cache listing for our coin night. It's too short of notice for gc.com. So, you won't be able to log this event as a find on the site. :(

Coin Race Rules...
  • This race is open only to geocoins.
  • A maximum of 2 coins per participant will be permitted.
  • All coins must be activated, and have 0 (zero) distance before the start of the race.
  • All coins must be trackable on the geocaching.com website.
  • All participating coins must be present at the start-up event, to record the official tracking number of the coin. The owner of the coin does not have to be present. (If your coin can't be present email me, we'll work something out, but you'll be at a disadvantage.)
  • At the start-up event, an official tag will be issued to each coin, identifying it as a participant in the race, which is to be included with the coin in its travels.
  • Anytime after the start-up event, the coins are to be placed in any cache in Ontario. Distance traveled will be determined from that starting cache. (If you can't make it to the event, email me, I'll get you a tag to attach to your coin. Don't start racing before you get your tag.)
  • The race will conclude at 11:59pm on March 31, 2010.  At that time, the categories will be checked, and winners declared.

Travelling Rules...
  • Participating cachers are not permitted to move any of the coins, (including their own, once placed in a cache), or interfere with their progress in any way.
  • Movement of a coin by a relative, friend, or business associate is prohibited.
  • Coins are to be moved from cache to cache in the usual manner, with one cacher placing a coin in a cache, and another cacher retrieving it and moving it along.
  • Coins are to be physically moved by hand from one cache to another.  Movement by UPS, FedEx, snail mail, etc, is prohibited.

Winning...
  • The coin with the most miles traveled.
  • The coin with the most caches visited.
  • The coin that is furthest from it's starting cache.
One coin could possibly win all three categories, or there might be three winners of the three categories. Any prize (probably a gift certificate) will be divided by the winning categories.

This race is run on the Honor System, and relies on the integrity of the individual cacher to follow the rules.

Darren - since you were unable to get the cache event published, How about putting the coordinates for the Madhouse here, so people like me who has no idea where the madhouse is, will be able to find it easier.

Thanks
Jim

For sure! Madhouse...
N 48° 25.894 W 089° 13.758

Of course, and this is an underhanded idea, so tell me it is and shut me down...
We could "host" and additional coin party in a couple weeks time (to give GC.com enough time to publish it) and allow folks who turn up to this event to log it too?

Well that was way too fun. Lets start off by first saying, we basically all arrived prior to 7.pm. We all found tables close by, moved a few together, ordered and had a brewski or two. Hmmmm where's Shroom Where's Jen, their car was outside when we arrived at 6:45. They have the coins.  Seeing as we are all quite observant, we all walk around this bar and grill, no sign of them. We can find nano's in the bush but not two people. Finally at 7:30, the winners of the spring cache challenge (Jungle Bus) locate this rather tough cache, in the form of Shroom, Jen, (and nano baby) as well as the female half of the Pohmas. Tough find. Enjoyed the hike. Took nothing left a loonie, thanks for the fun. Fun stuff and thanks for another great event and the work you and Jen have done.

Great seeing everyone out last night, even if I did arrive as most were leaving.

And thanks again to those that offered up some coins for people, like myself, that were looking to get in on the action a little late in the game. The coins look amazing!

Can't wait to seen my one on the its way and see where it ends up.

Good luck to all in the race!

Well put H-K.  You always have such a way with words!!  Anyway, had a great time with y'all.  Dinner was good, camaraderie was better - thanks for the nachos csooley!!  Thanks to Shroom once again for takin' care o' business!  Coins look great!  Good to see everyone again.

Shroom....is there a way we can monthly track this?  I know Mr. Junglebus probably has scraped the web for all the data already, and is planning a way to put it on a page for himself!  Perhaps he can share???  :-)  It would be fun to have a monthly update....perhaps we can start a new thread, that talks about the progress we are all making??

Good time last night folks. I'm glad JungleBus finally invited us over to your table. We were starting to feel like no one wanted to hang out with us. :)

I have started a spreadsheet to track movements and was going to post it monthly like you suggested, Mech, but I second your motion for JungleBus to write a script that will automatically scrape the coin info from the gc.com site weekly and update a webpage here on the site with the stats! That would be so cool. Here's the list that I've compiled of the registered NWOG Geocoin Racecoins (all 26.) Feel free to follow them on your own. Greg, please use this list to write us a script, that'd be so cool!

Tracking No.   Owner   Coin Name
PCKW71   ChrisDom   ChrisDom's Racing NWOG Geocoin
MB401G   ChrisDom   ChrisDom's Racing Center Benchmark Micro Geocoin
CCHZH8   csooley   Geocoin Club March 2007 Geocoin
CA2FC6   csooley   Canada Christmas Micro Geocoin
PCKVQP   DeathSnake
PC739M   GOTP
PCCW6A   GOTP
PC701K   Hunter-Killer   North Western Ontario Geocachers Race Geocoin # 1
PCMT7K   Hunter-Killer   North Western Ontario Geocachers Race Geocoin #2
PCFCW4   jleecollins   ClO2Jim's Racing NWOG Geocoin
PC5Z2W   JungleBus   Hot Dog Geocoin
EVJTDR   JungleBus   2008 Evil Micro Geocoin
PCFEPN   Mechman   Mechman's NWOG Geocoin #1
PCK1HH   Mechman   Mechman's NWOG Geocoin #2
PCAHR2   Wandering Man
PC3X31   peanutbeagle   pnutbeagle's NWOG Geocoin
PCV7JQ   Poohma   NWOG Geocoin
PC4C2D   Poohma   NWOG Geocoin
PCHVD9   ragbag   NWOG Geocoin - ragbag 1
PCBE7T   ragbag   NWOG Geocoin - ragbag 2
PCPCMR   Ruth x2
PCEJFR   Ruth x2
PC75Y4   shroom&Jenn   Jenn's NWOG Racing Coin #1
PC6FDW   shroom&Jenn   Jenn's NWOG Racing Coin #2
PC4F6X   The Pepsis   Pepsi's NWOG Geocoin #2
PCJZG2   The Pepsis   Pepsi's NWOG Geocoin #1

Here's an interesting tid-bit. As of 24 hours into the race, only one coin has made it out of the owner's hands into a cache and six still haven't been activated! Crazy! What are we waiting for.

PS: If you are trying to get ahold of me or Jenn tomorrow, we're going on a little road trip to the Manitoba border. (Just kidding.)

Thanks for carrying on with this idea, Shroom.  It sounds like the kick-off was a good time.  Sorry I couldn't be there to join in the festivities.  Thanks also for taking care of my coins for me.  I am looking forward to seeing how the race progresses.

So, how strict are we going to be in "if you're in the race, you can't move coins" and the "you can't get your friends/relatives to move your coins for you" department.  ???

Quote
Travelling Rules...

    * Participating cachers are not permitted to move any of the coins, (including their own, once placed in a cache), or interfere with their progress in any way.
    * Movement of a coin by a relative, friend, or business associate is prohibited.
